Homemaker Services
The Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) defines homemaker services as support to help individuals manage general cleaning and household activities. These services are available to individuals who need assistance with household tasks or when their primary caregiver is unable to manage these activities or is temporarily absent.
Minnesota Department of Human Services
There are three types of homemaker services:
- Homemaker Cleaning: Involves tasks such as light housekeeping and laundry services.
- Homemaker Home Management: Includes homemaker cleaning services along with incidental assistance in arranging transportation, meal preparation, shopping for essentials, and performing simple household repairs.
- Homemaker Assistance with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs): Encompasses homemaker cleaning services plus incidental assistance with activities like ambulating, bathing, dressing, eating, grooming, and toileting.
It’s important to note that homemaker services do not cover training or habilitation and cannot be authorized if they duplicate other services the individual already receives.
